Anderleigh

‘Anderleigh’ was built in 1923 by prominent Art and Crafts architect Gerald Jones for the Harvey family. Since then there have been few owners, a true testament to the allure of the location. The exquisite renovation and refurbishment is, without question, one of the most magnificent seen today, with no expense spared to create the complementary harmony of inspirational living spaces inside and out. The use of American Oak, Italian marble, tongue and groove ceilings and an abundance of glass have lent an element of classic yet liveable grandeur, and the increase in stud height and flow between the front and rear have created a lovely aerated feeling. There are four fireplaces with distinctive Oamaru stone mantles throughout (two gas and two open), under-floor heating and ducted gas central heating. What is now the expansive sunroom and kitchen was previously five rooms, these have all been opened up and pushed out. Meticulous care has been taken so all new spaces retain an authentic feel, and while all fittings and finishing are absolute top-of-the-line, a rustic style and true sense of home has been expertly achieved. The kitchen is breathtaking. The hand-built, La Cornue oven is the piece de résistance, while the centre island has two dishwashers and is topped with a slab of Oregon timber taken from one of the original house walls.

A butler’s pantry allows for effortless entertaining and helps cater to large as well as intimate groups. All the living is done on the ground floor, with multiple lounge, living and dining rooms presenting endless options for family. They spill out to an expansive terrace and swimming pool at the rear, which captures utterly breathtaking views out across the harbour. Alive with activity by day or by night, there’s always something to see, whether it be celebratory fireworks, twinkling city lights, cruise liners or pleasure craft bobbing on the bay. Below this area an intimate spa pool sits beneath a gazebo, while the glass house, tool shed and additional vegetable gardens produce bountiful produce. A private walk-way leads straight down to the water’s edge of the bay below - this property is one of only a handful that are blessed with direct beach access. All accommodation is located upstairs, where the use of white shutters enhances privacy, but still allows the light to stream in.

The guest suite has an ensuite, while the two large additional bedrooms are serviced by the main bathroom. The master domain captures inspirational views of the harbour, and has a large dressing room and opulent bathroom. T

he Summer House is an entirely separate quarters that has also been refurbished. It overlooks the front garden and features the same finishing as the main house - woven carpets, tongue and groove roof detail and white shutters. The bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette would comfortably house staff, dependant relatives or a lucky teenager. Numerous vehicles fit in and around the three car garaging, which is back to back so to accommodate a boat. This astonishing property boasts an unprecedented class of development and sets a new benchmark for residential luxury.
